This Is Your Brain on Fun

January 24, 2017 by Christine Nieto Leave a Comment

Think play is just for fun? Think again! An afternoon at Bounce ‘N Play may put a smile on your children’s faces, but the benefits will last long after the day is done. Active play positively impacts kids moods, mental development, and even their performance in school.

The ABC’s of Exercise and the Brain

  1. Happy School KidsAll about blood flow. Physical fitness improves blood flow to the brain, which means your kid’s cranium is getting more oxygen and glucose. What does that mean in the real world? Kids are more alert and focused, which allows them to memorize more efficiently and learn new material more quickly.
  2. Building blocks of the brain. Studies show that regular exercise builds brain cells in the areas relating to memory. Kids who exercise have better short-term memory and respond to things more quickly than kids who don’t.
  3. Crush that creativity! Are your kids artistically-minded, auditorily adept, or creative problem solvers? Exercise improves the brain’s flexibility, allowing kids to think outside the box.
  4. Develop spatial awareness. Studies show that interactive, dimensional play—that is, play that incorporates multiple surfaces and spaces, like jumping rope or climbing up and jumping down an inflatable slide—help kids develop spatial awareness, which allows them to understand fundamental skills like geometry later in life.
  5. Everyone works together. Active play develops social skills and leadership abilities. Kids who play together can tackle teamwork in other areas too, like group projects at school.
  6. Fun! Stress damages children’s brains, but having fun helps kids release their daily stresses. Bring on those smiles!

How To Get Your Kids To Eat Healthier

April 23, 2016 by Christine Nieto Leave a Comment

Healthy foodRunning, jumping, bouncing: it is all a great way for little ones to get some great exercise! Exercise is one way to stay healthy and fit but also establish great lifestyle choices for the future. At Bounce N Play New York, we love to see our young guests embracing exercise and all it has to offer, but we also understand it is only one part of the equation. Establishing healthy lifestyle goals is a two part system that involves both regular exercise, as well as healthy eating. This can be a bit tricky, especially for the very young ones whose palates are not quite as developed yet. Let Bounce N Play help you with some tips and tricks for getting your young ones to eat healthier, even if they do not know it!

Sneaky Sauce

Researchers have found that children are less likely to notice if veggies are pureed and combined with pasta sauce! Freeze or buy frozen broccoli and cauliflower and puree it. Combine it with your regular pasta sauce and your kids will probably not notice! This is a great way to get them to eat more of the good veggies they need to support their growing bodies!

A Fruity Drink

Fruit smoothies are another fantastic way to up your child’s fruit intake. Combine a variety of fruit (none that appear green) with almond or soy milk for a deliciously fruity treat! It can be used as a dessert or as a snack!

While it may seem difficult to get your kiddos to eat healthy now, their palates are still developing, so introducing them to fruits and veggies as they grow is a good idea. You want your child to like healthy choices, therefore encourage them to try a bite every time you make a new vegetable, and not always sneak it into food they know they like. Soon, they will be requesting and gobbling up all the veggies you put in front of them!

Health Benefits for Kids

December 1, 2015 by Christine Nieto Leave a Comment

Most adults know how important exercise is for their overall health. There are not only weight loss benefits, but improved stamina, memory, and a better outlook on life. What some adults may not realize is just how important exercise is for their children. Bounce house with kids

A study by kidshealth.org showed that kids who exercise regularly will have “stronger muscles and bones, a leaner body as exercise will help control body fat, they will be less likely to become overweight in the future, have a decreased rick of developing type 2 diabetes, have lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and an improved outlook on life.”

At Bounce N Play in Astoria, New York, we completely agree with these statistics, and want to help combat the epidemic of childhood obesity and depression. Our bounce house and various inflatables will make for a fun time for kids of all ages, and we are reasonably priced. Do your kids prefer some other activity to bouncing? We have a variety of options including our rock climbing wall, jungle gym, dancing, and games that can strengthen the heart all while becoming healthy! We also welcome your child on their birthday, so all of their friends can experience health benefits of our inflatables too. We have healthy food options for your child’s party, such as our veggie tray that serves about fifteen people, and various entrees that serve up to 15 people as well.
